One of the most popular Mother’s Day events is serving Mom breakfast in bed. Here are three tips to make your breakfast as unique and special as the woman you are honoring. Have the family present breakfast on a platter or breakfast tray and choose dishes that she will love to use throughout the year. You can make these part of the gift and the pieces will serve as a reminder of her fabulous day. I’ve chosen some fabulous platters, trays, mugs, glasses and plates on Pinterest for inspiration. Serve her favorite breakfast items. This one seems like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised at the number of moms that get served their family’s favorite, not theirs. If she loves chocolate croissants Trader Joe’s has ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ones that are so simple to make and did I say they are fabulous?! Plus it’s okay to choose a couple of indulgent items, it’s a holiday! Allow her time to enjoy breakfast without interruption. Even better, let her choose when she will get up and enjoy the rest of the day. Now For Your Cheat Sheet, Here’s Your Mother’s Day Breakfast In Bed Checklist: Serving tray or platter Mug for coffee/tea [...]

I never considered myself a girly girl. Feminine maybe, but not girly. I wasn’t drawn to pink and purple, ruffles or lace. I didn’t grow up dreaming of my wedding day or babies. And I definitely didn’t get emotional or cry at cute things often. Tears were saved for Lifetime movies or death. And don’t judge me, some of those Lifetime movies are real tearjerkers. Motherhood has changed me in a way I NEVER expected. I now have an emotional side that surfaces A LOT. I hug more, cry more, say “I love you” more. I don’t gag in the baby section of stores (yes, this used to happen…) and I kinda understand how people can be moved to tears by the simple things. Being Mommy helps me look at things through the eyes of a child and an adult. I see the way that time flies. Is my firstborn really in Kindergarten already?! I now want to be sure I truly experience life fully… through fun, laughter, joy, tears and hugs. I share this because there are lots of stories about ways to show our gratitude to moms and the special women in our lives. This is good and [...]

One of the best ways I get me time is through exercise. This is especially delightful in the Spring when I take my workout routine outside. That’s because my jogging/walking route has the beautiful scent of honeysuckle! The smell is rejuvenating and relaxing at the same time (plus it reminds me of growing up in rural NC…). Without fail it puts me in a good mood. This past week it inspired an extra ½ mile, . It also inspires me to hunt for the scent in other places. This Sweet Honeysuckle candle from Yankee is one of my absolute favorites. So, what do you love about exercising outdoors?

Wondering how I ended up in Disney World over Spring Break? It’s because kids forget NOTHING! Two years ago the oldest princess had a friend go to Disney and she wanted to go. To appease her I said, “Well, we should wait until everyone is old enough to enjoy it. So when you’re 6 the baby will be 2. That’ll be a good time.” After that she mentioned Disney every once in a while, but rarely in the context of her going… well, not until her 6th birthday in December. As we were celebrating she said, “Yes! NOW we can go to Disney World, right?!”. Then she reminded me of our conversation when she was four. Yep, two years she had been holding on to that so the planning began. Now, here is a great thing about friends. My girl Socamom had gone to Disney the year before and had done an excellent job of planning. And since I’m not one to reinvent work I pretty much hijacked… ahem… I mean borrowed a lot from her, . I used her packing list and her tips for saving money at Disney. The only thing I did different was stay on the [...]

If you’re looking for a way to tackle goals in small, positive and manageable steps, DailyFeats may be your answer. I was introduced to the site last year at Blogalicious and I LOVE it! DailyFeats lets you sign up for small feats that will help you reach your bigger goals without being overwhelmed. These goals can be anything from health and wellness related, to “I want to do more in my community” to organization projects and so much more. For instance, I signed up for feats to help me eat more fruits and veggies, to stretch during the day at my desk and to take a laugh break. Today I added the “Everyone Outside” feat to my list (they offer suggestions on the home page). To meet today’s goal I ate lunch outside. It was a beautiful day and it made me feel so good. Now I’m looking forward to doing it again, J. Once you have signed up you can visit the site every day to check-in your progress, sign up for text reminders or use the iPhone app (I’m waiting for an Android version…). The even better part? While you are getting closer to your goals you are [...]

In honor of Peach Cobbler Day on April 13th I’m sharing one of my secret dessert recipes that’s EXTREMELY easy to make. I have been making this peach cobbler dump cake for years… since my first apartment in college, and it is ALWAYS a hit. Factor in it only takes 5 minutes to assemble and 35 minutes to bake and you’ll see why I keep this one in heavy rotation. You’ll need: Two 16 oz cans of peaches in juice or syrup ½ box of butter or yellow cake mix One stick of butter Cinnamon (optional to sprinkle on top) Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Drain ½ of juice from can of peaches. Empty peaches with remainder of juice into 9×9 inch baker pan. Sprinkle ½ box of dry yellow cake mix over the peaches. Yes, the dry cake mix with nothing else. Cut butter into thinly sliced squares and place on top of the cake mix. Sprinkle with cinnamon (This is optional). Bake for 35 minutes or until top is brown and bubbly. Enjoy!

With Spring officially here, I had planned to write a First Day of Spring post. But then seasonal allergies hit my house… BAD! So instead of writing about the first day of Spring, this post is about allergy-friendly things you can do in the Spring with your kids. Grow orchids indoors. Orchids are typically allergy-friendly plants and they are gorgeous! This is a good way to still have the joy of spring flowers, minus the itchy, watery and swollen eyes. Play in the rain. You may not want to be outside on a beautiful, sunny day, but rainy weather can be your friend. Get some cool rain boots and raincoat and have fun splashing. Embrace your inner child and your kids will have awesome Spring memories. Make jewelry (bracelet, necklace) using spring/pastel colors. You can find beautiful beads and jewelry-making kits at your local arts and crafts store. Let kids decorate their own sunglasses. Sunglasses are a great way to shield eyes from irritants (pollen, etc.) in the air and children will be especially proud to wear ones that they have bedazzled or painted. Any others? Please share!
