Last week I finally made it inside the gates of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! To say I was excited is an understatement. After all, The White House is on my bucket list.
To make it better I was given the opportunity for a two-day event through Mocha Moms, Inc., a support group of amazing women.
The first day I attended a Moms Briefing by Senior Obama administration officials and the next day my family toured the East Wing. It was nice to hear about the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative, healthcare, education, the environment and domestic policy firsthand.
Topics ranged from the state of our education system to indoor air quality, work-life balance, business support and the mortgage crisis.
But, here is my biggest takeaway from the event. It is SO. VERY. IMPORTANT. to be involved.
It can be through a great organization like Mocha Moms, a religious institution, your local government or community outreach programs. The important thing is to find your niche and to work to make a difference.
My friend Nicole said it best when asked to sum up the briefing. She said, “I left more informed and encouraged to do my part throughout the year, not just the first Tuesday in November.”
Queenocracy is about fun things to do by yourself, with family or with friends. In the future I’ll be including some suggestions that are fun and healthy. That are fun AND educational.
It’ll be my small way of trying to make a difference,
