My girls love outdoors. So when I was deciding on an event to launch Queenocracy’s new look, a planting party was the perfect choice. I jazzed up the idea by adding spring games so the kids would be entertained while waiting for their pots to dry.
I started with sending evites to moms that had previously expressed an interest in the event. I also did a few paper invites for moms that were not on my email list, but that had a direct connection to me or my girls.
After getting an idea for the number of attendees I made my shopping list:
Craft Supplies:
- Clay pots (one per child)
- Acrylic Paint (easy to wash)
- Paintbrushes
- Small rocks (put in bottom of pot to collect water)
- Newspaper (use as fertilizer in pot)
- Flowers
- Potting soil
- Plastic tablecloths
Games:
-
Sidewalk chalk (hopscotch)
- Horseshoe
- Hula hoops
- Jump ropes
- Skip rope
- Balls
Snacks:
- Turkey Sandwiches
- Pasta Salad
- Tossed Salad
- Apple slices
- Strawberries
- Carrots
- Chips
- Lemonade
- Apple Juice
- Plates/plastic ware/cups/napkins
- Wipes/Tissue
Treat:
- Cake/Cupcakes
I began setting up three hours before the event. I used a long rectangle table for the painting and planting station. A medium rectangle table served as the buffet table and small kid-size tables were used for snack time.
The highlights of the party (according to the guests) were:
- Being able to take the plant home
- An impromptu game of tag that surely tired the kids out
- The cake and favors
- An enjoyable spring day outside
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Thanks Dianne! I’m glad you found it useful. It really was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to do it next year!
Great idea. Thanks for sharing. I have shared your link with my followers.
Hi Towanda,
Thank you so much for inviting me and my girls to your planting party. It was wonderful. We had a great time and my girls loved the fact that they painted their pots and then planted flowers in them. Every morning before I take them to school, they water their flowers with joy in their eyes. Also many thanks for the gifts you sent us home with. I really love my scented candle. Until next time, have a blessed year.
First let me thank you for inviting us to your fabulous party. We immensely enjoyed it and my daughter is quite proud of her little pot and plant. I think that part of the party was the best for the kids. I’m glad to meet new mom friends and everyone was quite friendly too. I look forward to next time…Thanks again Towanda!
Hi Towanda,
My girls and I had a blast at the planting party! I love gardening anyway, so I was really looking forward to coming. I am not sure what they enjoyed the most, getting to paint their little flower pots, planting their very own flower, or running around playing hide and seek and climbing trees with the other kids. And if that wasn’t enough fun, they got cupcakes and favor bags too!!! Thank you so much.
Now each day, we go out and water their flowers and check to see if they are growing yet. A special thanks for my delightfully scented candle!
@A-Dizzle I’m glad you ladies had a good time and note taken. Next event I’ll be sure to make potato salad and I’ll have you a tupperware container waiting…
@Maegan Glad you guys enjoyed it! Can’t wait to hear the plant names…
Hey Towanda,
Thank you for inviting us to a wonderful party. My children had a blast and I am still recuperating from the impromptu game of tag
It was wonderful to see children being creative and enjoying nature. As soon as we got home, my children watered, named and placed their plants on the deck to get more sun.
P.S. It was a real treat for the mommies to receive a goodie bag – yum yum candles are great!
Maegan
sooooooo, let me say thanks to you for having us because as we all know…I DO NOT DO OUTSIDE!! so my child had a taste of nature while planting, arts & craftiness, running, socializing, picnicing all in one afternoon-none of which i would do on my own umprompted. it was super cute to boot! but you know my one gripe…and i wouldn’t be me if i didn’t fuss just one…more…time>>>POTATO SALAD! heck, why don’t you just have a potato salad party next time? with one guest? tomorrow, you say? be there with bells on AND a tupperware container-wooohooo!
